http://bit.ly/7gdkK7 - - - WASHINGTON - The White House has reached a tentative agreement with union leaders to tax high-cost medical plans, one of the final obstacles in the way of President Barack Obama's health care remake, officials said Thursday.
Details of the agreement were not immediately available. The tentative deal was expected to be presented to congressional leaders Thursday as negotiators try to wrap up an agreement on core elements of the sweeping legislation as early as Friday. The proposed tax has been a major sticking point because early versions from the Senate would have hit union members, who have negotiated generous health benefits, sacrificing higher wages. House Democrats were strongly opposed, and did not include the tax in their bill. But Obama favored the tax, citing the consensus opinion of economists that it would help hold down costs by nudging workers into less pricey coverage. Union and Democratic officials spoke about the tentative deal on condition of anonymity because the talks were private. - - - Let me guess..... wracking my brain! OH, I GET IT! Unions will be exempt from the tax! Classic "unequal treatment under the law"... the solution was quite simple! I think with this they will have officially violated more clauses of the Constitution than actually exist in the document and various amendments thereto. I think these idiots need to be "nudged" from office before they do any more irreparable damage to the economy. And I'm so glad the Administration was meeting behind closed doors with big political supporters to broker the new national policy. I mean, we can't have any of these sensitive negotiations on CSPAN or anything like that, now can we? I mean, that would be CRAZY! Only a shameless demagogue would promise something that stupid. http://bit.ly/7RFoPG - Publius -- "It ought never to be forgotten, that a firm union of this country, under an efficient government, will probably be an increasing object of jealousy to more than one nation of Europe; and that enterprises to subvert it will sometimes originate in the intrigues of foreign powers, and will seldom fail to be patronized and abetted by some of them. Its preservation, therefore ought in no case that can be avoided, to be committed to the guardianship of any but those whose situation will uniformly beget an immediate interest in the faithful and vigilant performance of the trust."
