It appears that Ellie Light has a good buddy, Mark Spivey. Mark writes
about Obama's delay in deciding a strategy in Afganistan. Like Ellie,
has written dozens of letters that appeared in newspapers. His letters
are nearly identical in grammar, tone, and substance. Spivey's
sign-off is generally Soldiers are human beings, not chess pieces.
It’s about time we have a president who understands that.

Here is a sample Mark Spivey letter:

...

That same or very similar letter was written by Mark Spivey in
Minneapolis, Mn
Santa Barbara, Ca
Jackson, Tn
 Naples, Fl
Baltimore Chronicle, MD
And many many more places.

When you cross Ellie Light with Mark Spivey, you understand how low
"the most transparent presidency in history" will go to fool the
American Public.

Ellie Light was funny, but with now another ubiquitous Obama
"defender" it's starting to get a little ... creepy.

Who is behind this? Are all these letters truly the work of a single
woman? Or is there an organization behind “Ellie Light”? (David
Axelrod, call your office!) There’s no hard proof as of yet.

Here’s what we do know. Glenn Greenwald (yes, I know, but keep
reading) flagged the fact that Obama’s pal (and head of the Office of
Information and Regulatory Affairs) Cass Sunstein recently wrote a
paper suggesting something sounding a lot like Astroturfing:

"Sunstein advocates that the Government’s stealth infiltration should
be accomplished by sending covert agents into “chat rooms, online
social networks, or even real-space groups.” He also proposes that the
Government make secret payments to so-called “independent” credible
voices to bolster the Government’s messaging (on the ground that those
who don’t believe government sources will be more inclined to listen
to those who appear independent while secretly acting on behalf of the
Government)."

That sure sounds a lot like what’s happening here, doesn’t it?

Who is Ellie Light?

I would like to know.

How about you?

Sunstein is our new spiffy "regulatory czar" who has advocated a lot
of disturbing things (giving animals lawyers so they can sue people
being one of the more... unusual), but if it's true he favors
government "infiltration" of free media to promote its messaging, and
if Ellie or Mike can be traced to such an effort, then this goes
beyond creepy and starts to take on the contours of an outrage.

"It ought never to be forgotten, that a firm union of this country,
under an efficient government, will probably be an increasing object
of jealousy to more than one nation of Europe; and that enterprises to
subvert it will sometimes originate in the intrigues of foreign
powers, and will seldom fail to be patronized and abetted by some of
them. Its preservation, therefore ought in no case that can be
avoided, to be committed to the guardianship of any but those whose
situation will uniformly beget an immediate interest in the faithful
and vigilant performance of the trust." [Federalist Papers #59]
