Gene...snap!
I had the same problem here and it used to crash regularly. Since I updated
to V3.7 last week I have had no problems and it is definitely snappier to
load and they seem to have cured the memory leak/overuse problem.

I am running Firefox 3.5.7 British English under XP, and I find
that Firefox chews up more memory over time. Recently, it got to
590+000K before I closed it. While closing, it briefly exceeded
600000K. My system has 1GB of RAM.

I also see brief surges in CPU usage that seem unconnected with
what I am doing.
