Having one DB does seem like a more sophistimicated approach, and at
least you would *know* that your schema matched across all sites....

BUT you're right - one man's 'cumbersome' is another mans 'security'....

Tough call, but if performance is an issue, as you already know the
smaller the tables, the better...
