You probably need sFTP and a SSL certificate on your server.

We use apache2triad with the SlimFTPd server. We have been using it for more 
than 7 years with no significant problems.

I believe there are versions for Linux as well as Windows (We use the windows 
version). It is nice because you can have
different passwords with different permissions on as many different folders as 
you want on the same server.
