Just trying to be helpful. Unique indexes have their quirks and one of them
seems to be that you can't count on them being updated dynamically when the
underlying data changes.

I started with SCO Foxbase+ back in 88 so I guess that makes me a n00b...

Yes, I am using the "unique" index for the purpose for which it was
designed.  I've been doing dBase -> Fox since ~ 84 or 85 as a user, ~88 as a
developer. I know what a Unique index is used for. Only it isn't doing it.
Like others have pointed out, a SQL statement works better these days.

I guess I need to bring this up only among fellow oldsters over a barley
pop.
