Hummm... let's see. She is Cuban raised in Venezuela, she is certainly
ultra-right anti-Castro. And we know how reasonable these people are.
But nonetheless let's see her arguments. Penn says the elections were
transparent and democratic. And that is true! Even US former presidents
controlling the elections said so. Further, when Chavez tried to modify
the constitution the people's vote said no and he had to step back. She
writes of lack of free speech, international posturing, and escalating
violence and poverty. These are just silly arguments, they have nothing
whatsoever to do with the transparence and democracy of the elections
where he became president.
I personally don't like many of Chavez's ways, but it cannot be disputed
that he was elected by a clear majority of Venezuelans. No matter how
miss Alonso dislikes this fact. And the correct way if these other
practices are true is to convince the electorate and democratically beat
him in the next elections.
