Just to clarify if mytable contains a record with a value of '12345678' in the cname field and i'm looking for '45'
the select statement would be select iid, cname from mytable where cname like '&45' it will return the record described above? i.e. any record with '45' in the cname field... strings like '45678', '9456'.
