I think it would only pay (maybe) to apply the changes on a go-forward basis. But wouldn't it be a lot easier, cheaper, and more certain to save money, if you simply modify the printer preferences to print in draft mode, or some mode less than "full ink" mode? You could set up a few "printers" for each printer.
