Hi Nicholas,

Perhaps even less than $5 in some places.

Reducing the population probably isn't going to happen except by war and 
disease in the foreseeable future (and might be counterproductive, 
depending on how effective war and disease are), but not to worry. There 
are always wars, a number of wars in progress as we consider this topic, 
and disease is also non-stop. Some disease is even ineptly caused by 
doctors.

Prosperity tends to reduce the birth rate. As a people prosper they have 
fewer children in their whole population. The really down and out 
nations don't have widespread knowledge of birth control.

It is a shame to say it, but there are also murders and accidents. 
Combined with war and disease the death rate is 100%.

After the war between the states the southern states had an 
underpopulation problem for years. Could happen again if the terrorists 
get the weapons they want.
