Pete,
It is probably the Inverter in the screen itself. Either the backlight or
the inverter are invariably the cause of the problems. If it actually does
come up to start with ok then just dies then it is the Inverter.

Replacement with bits off EBAY brand new shipped from the far east if you do
it yourself is about $20 max but expect to pay a LOT more if you get the
parts locally. I just ordered a new inverter and LCS Backlight from Hong
Kong for a Dell Inspiron 1525 and delivered the cost was $10. I have no idea
how they do it for the money .In this case it was both the inverter and the
backlight that had failed.

Time to fix about 15 minutes.

Hi Everybody,

My Gateway Solo 9300 is having intermittent display blackouts.

I am guessing that the ribbon cable needs to be wiggled - perhaps even
sprayed with contact cleaner, but I can't get to it. I am pretty sure I
have taken out all the #1 Phillips screws that hold the case together. I
have all the drives and the battery out as well as the memory slot door.

I found the little stick-on covers that hide the two screws near the top
of the keyboard. I still can't get the cover to open. What am I overlooking?
