Thank you! Notes for the mailing list archives follow my signature.
Regards,
Malcolm
Notes for the archives: I went through the libraries one by one and
chose the following install options. Where I specified (some), I usually
selected several utilities whose name I recognized from my old Unix days
or whose description sounded useful.
- Admin (ALL)
- Archive (ALL)
- Audio (some)
- Base (ALL) <--- Paul McNett recommendation
- Devel (some)
- Doc (some)
- Editors (some)
- Graphics (some)
- Interpreters (some)
- Libs (some)
- Mail (some)
- Net (some)
- Publishing (some)
- Security (ALL)
- Shells (some)
- System (some)
- Text (some)
- Utils (ALL)
- Web (some)
Tip: One doesn't need to worry about accidentally unselecting or not
selecting dependent files. After making your initial selection the
installer detects missing dependencies and prompts you with an option to
have missing dependencies installed as well.
Caution: To reinforce Paul's warning ("selecting everything will take
hours to install"), my very minor subset of possible files amounted to a
500M download. (Yeah ... I have the same problem with all-you-can-eat
buffets ... LOL!)
