Malcolm,
I'm interested as well. We have been asked by one of our suppliers to FTP
and email Files with PGP encryption and I must admit I haven't a clue what
to do. I believe that the PGP algorithm's are open source and if you go onto
the PGP site you can download all the encryption source code. However, that
is as far as I have got due to outside pressures and other work. The actual
PGP product if bought retail seems to be very expensive and I was wondering
if you could in effect "roll your own" so any input on this would be
welcome.

My comment on the requirement was a simple use winzip with the
encryption/password on any files that need sending but the PHB's at the
supplier seem to have been brainwashed into the PGP is best. It looks as
though there will be more expense for us (which I don't mind) and/or lots of
extra work for me which I haven't really got time to get into. Hence my
interest. I wouldn't mind a pointer to a "simple PGP" and what it is
reference as I must admit I'm totally ignorant when it comes to this
encryption and certificates lark.

Subject: [NF] Anyone using GPG or PGP encryption/signatures in your apps or
daily workflow?

Curious if any of you are using GPG or PGP encryption or
signatures in your apps or daily workflow?

In particular are you:

1. clearsigning specific emails?

2. validating clearsigned emails from others?

3. encrypting/decrypting files?

4. generating signatures for files that you are
exchanging/posting for download? (what's the advantage of a
signature vs. pure hash?)

I'm also curious to learn what public keyring services you are
using.

Thanks,
Malcolm
