We used Track-it to track assets in a 300 plus workstation environment for one of my clients. That was about 6-7 years ago and they are no longer a client (bought out by a public company). It was comprehensive, relatively inexpensive and had a VFP DBC to store the info. We were able to report on various aspects of what was in the data. They still have a trial version to see if it'll fit your needs.
