        Note that while Oracle own MySQL, there are two main forks of the code 
base that are completely free. First is Drizzle, which is a stripped-down, 
optimized version of MySQL (sponsored in large part by Rackspace). Another is 
MariaDB, which is a project run by the creator of MySQL to create a 1:1 drop-in 
replacement for MySQL that is independent of any Oracle ownership.

        That's the beauty of free (as in freedom) software: no one can buy it 
and kill it.
