I have a client with six-person office where they use a VFP app for
order processing and accounting. They need occasional remote access to
their desktops.

Six workstations, running Windows 7. The file server is a Linux box
running Samba. High-speed internet is a Comcast business connection,
NAT'ted through their router and routed again through a LinkSys
wireless N router.

For admin access, we've used an encrypted ssh tunnel to the server,
port-forwarding an (unencrypted) VNC connection to one of the
workstations. I suppose we could just extend this with additional keys
for the other people, and set them up with PuTTY and a VNC viewer on
their remote machines. But that would require us to either install it
ourselves or work up some pretty detailed instructions that would
likely still lead to tech support calls.

If there's an inexpensive application they could self-install on their
office machines, set it up and do the same on their remote machines,
that would be great. I'd expect at the least we might need to do some
route configuration, but that could be a one-time thing.

Other folks must have clients with remote access needs. What are you
using? How's it working? What restrictions are you running into?
