Thanks for the info Rafael, I got it sorted ok, I was originally calling the form from a prg file , this opened the tables, this works o.k. if the datasession=default, but if the form is modeless it blanks the grid, so by moving the table opening into the load event all works o.k.
I didn't know the order in which certain events fire ... but I do now.
