Just removed this one from a friend's PC.  Right royal pain in the butt, but
MalwareBytes (free version) did the trick to get rid of it.

If I could just now convince him to PURCHASE a security product ....

My daughter got bit by something like this.  "Think Point" (fake) 
anti-virus software.  Something in its beginning screen(s) were eluding 
to Microsoft Security Essentials.  Big nuisance.
