That's not a bad idea. Its easy enough to setup a Batch file. But, I've
never done any kind of Scheduling under Windows - except Appts occurring
in Outlook. Is there a scheduler built into WinXP?

Excellent! You lucked out.

On another front, while it would be nice if your employer sprung for a
second hard drive, I don't think that's a real excuse for being left
high and dry when you lose your working folder.

While you'd need a second drive to back up everything, surely your
working drive has SOME free space on it - enough to back up your current

work at least. You said this machine is always on. Schedule a batch
job, to run at midnight each nite, to copy your 'Current Work' folder to

a 'Backup' folder (in a different directory). I've used XCOPY in a .BAT

file and now use something called SyncBack, while Win 7 includes an
XCOPY on steroids called RoboCopy. Doesn't matter, set it up and USE
IT! If scheduling it doesn't work, run it before you leave each day.

In my view, the main purpose of my backups is for protection against
myself - mindless mistaken deletions are much more frequent than disk
failures.
