Thanks to all for the input. Steve the reason for not using server software
is I don't want to make the clients need a database it guy. dbf are better
for me. I am not writing for a large company with money to through away. I
am looking at C# though, that should go someway to getting into the 21st
century.

For Christ sake just drop the crap of Dbf and feel free. Pick anything else.
Server control of data is better than file based data. If it wasn't you
wouldn't be looking for a replacement because  there would be plenty to pick
from.

Follow the IT industry because they know better in this case.
