The "money" argument will usually do it with kids (sadly wives will know how to get out of that too). My daughter hadn't finished high school, was already living by herself, working and hanging out with the wrong kind of boys. So I asked her how much money she made and how many hours did she work to earn it. Then I offered her the same money for half the time if she worked for me. Her eyes lighted up and asked what did she have to do. I said finish school. It was a lot less work and for the same money, so she took it up. She finished in a few months. Then I proposed the same deal if she'd attend university. Today she is an economist, works and is currently doing a master in statistics. So you see... Now about the wife...
