Your examples are pretty weak. If an asteroid is normally 1 million miles away but comes within 50,000 miles of earth, I would start praying that it misses. If the sun spouts an eruption of a couple of thousand miles when we are 93million miles away, you had better batten the hatches. If the ocean level rises by 50 feet or even 10 feet but the average depth is 5 miles, watch out.
