I have the code in place at home, and see it pop up around here from
time to time, where you can check (yes, using the Win 32 API) for
whether or not an app is running or not.

Pretty painless - something like 3-4 lines... wish I knew it off the top
of my head but....

At least maybe putting it in place so you can move on until you find a
non Win 32 API call which seems to be your preference...
