A friend of my wife dropped off an older HP desktop over the weekend. She
told me her husband clicked on the attachment of an email a delivery notice
from UPS - not once but twice. (duh!) Then they tried to fix the problem
themselves, and probably made it worse. The system is trashed, I backed up
what I could from the document folders and am prepared to do a "Freeman C:"
(Wipe the system clean and start over, for those who don't know/remember Dan
Freeman - who did that so often he is rumored to have changed the name of
format.com to freeman.com on his systems).
They have no recovery disks for this system, and apparently the recovery
partition on the system is trashed because the recovery program won't even
start. If I recall correctly I can't install the same OS (XP Media Center
2005) from MSDN disks because their system has an OEM key which the MSDN
media will not recognize.
HP doesn't sell disks for this system anymore, but there are 3rd party
companies on the internet who do. Was wondering If anyone had any
experience dealing with them.
Gonna charge a little extra for this one - at least enough to cover the
bad-beat her husband gave me last week turning a low-pair into a full-house
post-flop.
TIA,
Lou
