I've always turned off broadcasting the SSID on my wireless router, stupid myths aside... <g>
In addition to using WPA2, I also limit the number of IPs that are available via the router's DHCP. I have an iPhone 3GS. Setting up wireless access was a one time entry of the connection info into the phone. Having said that, you still have to pay attention to when you're connecting via the 3G cell network vs. your local WLAN. -- rk -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Ted Roche Sent: Monday, April 25, 2011 12:07 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [NF] Lock down your WI-FI RIGHT NOW! Broadcasting your SSID is not a security vulnerability, any more than having house numbers on your house. If you lock down your network with WPA2, then it doesn't matter if everyone knows your SSID. If you don't lock down your network, it's easy enough to sniff the SSID even if it is not broadcast. This is just one of those stupid myths. -- Ted Roche _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/DF1EEF11E586A64FB54A97F22A8BD0441923ED596F@ACKBWDDQH1.artfact.local ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
