Plated tungsten "gold bars" would be easily detected with the fingernail test - gold surface too hard or too shallow to dent. HOWEVER, it is possible, relatively easy in fact, to "roll and mold" a gold *overlay* onto a tungsten bar. The fingernail would dent the overlay just fine. 24 caret gold is about the hardness of lead/tin solder. Of course, as long as no one knew, it would have no effect on anything. Thus, if it is indeed true, "it is not in the public interest" to come clean about it. Kind of like if the birth certificate was really fake. The plating company who makes the plated ones? These are just "souvenir and decoration" items.
