I've seen it in relation to it's use to generate Javascript for use with Appcelerator Titanium cross-platform mobile development toolkit. So it would be Coffeescript to Javascript and then to Java or Objective-C, depending on Android or iPhone, then into whatever low-level format they compile it to.
