I haven't tried it but do a copy to with production and then modify structure and change one of the indexes. Then copy just the cdx back and replace the original.

If i reindex this database, the damaged tag will be fixed. Is there
anyway to intentionally damage an index tag to be able to test logic later?

If you replace the first 4096 bytes in the CDX file with CHR(0) or random
values, you have rendered the index file unusable for VFP. Would that be
your goal?
