Hello everyone!
I have a Compaq Pentium running Progeny Debian Newton. I have a Phillips
CDD3610 CD-R/RW and a Compaq DVD-ROM SR-8583 that are both IDE ATAPI
CD-ROMs. I have the IDE-SCSI module configured and the drives are both
seen as SCSI. The DVD-ROM is 0,0,0 and the CD-R/RW is 0,1,0 (or hdb and
hdc respectively, they are also shown in the file manager as /CDROM and
/CDROM2.). I am using gcombust as the front end for cdrecord.
Here is my problem: When attempting to record a CD (audio) I can get
the -dummy
routine to work perfectly without any sign of error but when I try to
burn the CD for real I get a much different result. The cdrecord output
reports an I/O error after it attempts to perform OPC and the burn
session aborts. It doesn't attempt to perform OPC during the -dummy run,
and I must confess my ignorance about things scsi and say that I have no
idea what OPC is, The error message reads:
I/O error.send opc: scsi sendcmd: retryable error
status 0x2 (CHECK CONDITION)
resource temporarily unavailable, OPC failed
fifo had 64 puts 0 get's
fifo was 0 times empty and 0 times full, min fill was 100%
I am aware that Phillip's drives have quirks. In particular the business
about perhaps not being able to write to the media without a media
change (eject), as in not being able to switch from -dummy mode to write
mode with out ejecting the media in between. I have tried selecting
eject as an option in the preferences but it has no effect. The only
thing that seems out of place during the -dummy run is that the CD-R/RW
drive will respond to no manner of coaxing, button pushing, -eject , or
any other attempts to get it to give up the disc. It seems I have to restart
the system just to get the CD back ;-(
If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate some help.
