Good day to you all, hoping that you can help me with my little problem.
Booting from cd and completing the first stage install is working fine.
Grub gets put into /dev/sda and on reboot, hangs at the bootloader ('grub'
is all that gets displayed on screen, and no activity.) and I can get no
farther.
My hardware is a bit complex:
hda is a 10 gb maxtor drive where I want to install Progeny to.
hdb is a 13Gb ibm drive, one fat32 partition.
hdc is a ricoh combo drive
hdd is an atapi zip250
sda is a 70gb scsi drive with the swap partition, ntfs win2k system
partition
and ntfs applications partition
sdb is 9gb scsi drive with fat32 win98se partition.
I use system commander, and/or the win2k bootloader to choose o/s
(i know how to dd the bootblock to a file for the win2k bootloader, but I
cannot get this far.)
abit bf6 motherboard.
grub does not differentiate between when I set bios to boot from hda, or
scsi as it gets
put into sda whichever one i choose, and hangs on reboot on both bios
settings.
Booting from scsi is what I am looking for.
lilo under vanilla debian also has problems.
The last thing that I have not tried is to rescue boot from progeny cd, to
allow the installer
to finish, and try to manipulate lilo to get it working. I should be able to
get the system
installed, but to access it by rebooting from cd would be a bit of a pain.
If I can get a linux
bootloader to work, is it possible to dd the bootblock out like can be done
for lilo to get
it working under the win2k bootloader?
