Did the boot floppy seem to wright ok.. flashing lights noise etc. Also I guess that 
the bios is set to
boot from floppy ?
If this is a repeat atempt at instalation then it will fail in the way you have 
described. You would need to remopve all traces of progeny with
Fdisk or parted or somthing before trying again. On final thought can you try booting 
from the instalation CD cant remember exactly but I think you say linux
boot at the prompt. There is help in that opening window.
