Kent, thanks for the encouragement. I believe the old "cheap linux box"
page is still being maintained, though I haven't looked at it in a
while. If "cheap" is the operative word, yours is probably the best
advice. And I know that the professional approach is to pick the
software, and then build to suit. But I tend to do what I do well (be a
librarian), and pay others to do what they do well. I got this machine
by telling a local pc shop what I needed to run linux and opening my
wallet. However, I'm due for release from grad school in a month, (!),
and I will need something to do. Maybe this would be a good project.
