Can you make these versions accept an argument without quotes.  That is how
the sample Roger provides appears to work.

Shape of result often prevents me from writing correct sentences at first
try---by now I've learned where to look for my trouble spots.
Some forum authors have posted that instead of worrying about the shape they
insert instructions to make data the shape they need.
