I apologize about the brief message. I sent it from my phone in a rush. I upgraded my Verizon DROID phone last night. This was an update from Verizon and it is now at Android version 4.1.2. After the install I noticed that a new keyboard was installed - Android keyboard (ASOP). At least I had never noticed it before. All keyboards I had already installed including the J keyboard were still selected but all keyboard actions were handled by this new keyboard. Interestingly, the new keyboard was checked indicating active but the check box was dimmed. I couldn't unselect it. Nothing I could do turned that keyboard off. Other keyboards were selected and showed active.
I went to a Verizon store today and found a fairly knowledgeable man. He tried to correct it but thought that the other keyboards needed to be updated. He has a special keyboard installed on his phone. He said that his keyboard didn't work until he got an automatic update for his keyboard. It was a paid keyboard so the update came pretty quickly. I'm still not sure what is going on. Why didn't they dim the unusable keyboards instead of dimming the check box? He also told me that Verizon was getting a lot of flack for removing the long push on the phone pad. But the Android keyboard supports a long push allowing selecting alternate keys.
