What has attracted me to APL family is the "promise" of increased
programmer productivity. At least in the places I worked, that's the most
critical part. Performance issues do come into play from time to time, but
the most expensive asset is programmer's time....
I believe that's one of the reason Java and then .NET are so successfully
in the business world. After having experience with both C(++) and
Java/.NET, in the "managed" languages, the developer is indeed a bit more
productive, but not that much more as initially advertised. Yet software
industry quickly jumped on the wagon.
