J's type system is fixed and functions don't have signatures, so the
language doesn't support pattern matching in the function dispatch /
algebraic datatype sense.
If you mean regular expressions, J embeds PCRE ("Perl Compatible Regular
Expressions").

The results might surprise most of you since there's been signficant
performance tuning in J (around boxing) since its earlier days, and jmf and
3!:1 supports boxed data too now.
