Thanks Raul.  I've tried this on a new J session (using both the Mac
and Windows machine) and had exactly the same result.

I did try it in j64-602 on Windows and the commands worked perfectly.
This is not the first time I've had graphics problems with j701 that
were resolved by switching to j602.  Unfortunately I have not been
able to get j602 to install correctly on my Mac Mini (it refuses to
launch once installed, returning the message "j602 cannot be opened".)
