The official documentation is light on atomic representations (a.r.s), and
aside from the overview at [1] (referenced earlier), I believe they're
supposed to be "self-explanatory". I cringe to have to tell someone "we
didn't document that, you'll have to figure it out yourself", but in this
case the oversight is not too terrible; a.r.s are, actually, mostly
self-explanatory (for example, all the code, examples, and explanations I
posted in this thread are the results of experimenting with a.r.s and
related tools, over the years).
That said, searching on this topic leads to a number of references to the
paper:

The Bibliography on the Wiki is a great starting point for tracking down old

Which, unfortunately, is behind a paywall. But, clicking through the "buy
article" link to the "rent this paper" ad, we can get a preview of the first
page. Then, typing the first sentence into Google (in quotes) leads us to
an un-DRM'd copy, on Bob Bernecky's site:

The PDF link is broken, but the PS link is functional. So, downloading that
