Thanks. After a clean re-install I hit the crash in the same way as others
in this thread, but "install 'qtide'" per Jan-Pieter Jacobs' suggestion
sorted me out.
Re-installing reminded me that I have a standalone 64-bit Windows lapack.dll
that is compatible with the LAPACK add-on. (Reminded me because I
accidentally deleted this, and therefore needed to rebuild it!)
I have previously offered this dll to the list (in a thread in August 2011)
without finding any takers. But while I'm here, I'll take the opportunity
to try again. Any interest in getting this into the distributed version of
the add-on? It would be a lot more convenient than asking users to hunt
down the 5 libraries that lapack/manifest.ijs says are needed.

How did you update?
The file version of jqt.dll should be 1.0.24

Neither the 32-bit nor 64-bit version will start at all on either of my

Subject: [Jprogramming] jqt and qt addon updated
jqt has been updated to 1.0.24 and qt addon to 1.0.143, these
two versions must be used together. install'jqt' inside
jconsole will update both of them at the same time.
For those installed by windows installer, either using the
install'jqt' or installing the updated installer will
both work.
For android, if wd cannot run, type
dver''
and exit to force decompressing of J scripts.
jqt source tarball for latest relese is also hosted in the jqt
download page
