Apparently you need to also "root" it after jail breaking it. Read through

One of the comments:

"I also rooted my kindle, by installing the USBNet package, and looking up
my root password using my serial number, using the javascript web page
provided at the link."

It sounds like with a little hard work you will eventually be able to use a
terminal, ssh etc. From there try to install gcc, unzip the J source and
compile.
