Obviously Fif has the same bug as Fiw had:

My winpos.dat looked like 
   Fiw=792 259 938 109
...
   Fif=-2053 282 1924 350       NB. also a negative value
so it seems obvious the window was invisible.

After copying the Fiw-value in Fif, it worked fine.
