I have run into this also (and I am pretty sure I reported it - quite some time ago).
Apparently the way the editor sees opening a file is as if the contents were inserted into an empty buffer. I think that that is a bug - it should really negate that bogus potential "undo". That said, I have not gotten into the internals of the editor enough to come up with a fix. And that might make an interesting project for someone.
