I have created http://www.jsoftware.com/jwiki/Vocabulary/AmendingBoxedStructures
to hold the community's solutions to this problem, and have added applyintree as the first entry. I linked the pages for Amend and Fetch to refer to this page.
I used a simplified applyintree that doesn't do the rank razzmatazz. All the simple examples didn't need it.
