I think Tobia is referring to Dyalog's dfns, e.g.

  {⍺×⍵}

which resemble K's lambdas,

  {x*y}

Dyalog and K have dedicated syntax for function blocks whereas J
utilises string literal or fretted forms for explicit definitions.
This syntax can be appealing in nested expressions such as:

  {x{x,+/-2#x}/!2}
