There are probably too many names, but there are slight differences: JAL is the J Application Library, i.e. everything other than the base system.
"pacman" is the script that provides the interface to the code on the jsoftware website. In J, you can: load 'pacman' Package Manager is the name used for the Qt IDE GUI for pacman.
