It may be some other failure (access denied for example). 1!:11 gives
more information than fread

This works fine for me:

file=:'c:/temp/dummy.txt'
t=: 3e9 $ 'a'
t fwrite file
fread file;2.5e9,100

(1!:11) file;(2.5e9),100
