Yes, Bill, it seems to be something like that. A day or two ago - earlier in the same session - the dialogue window became very wide, wider than the real screen, and wasn't easy to use, as one needed to move it left and right to enter a search string
and then press the find button, so your hypothesis is likely right.

Later, I couldn't find the dialogue, presumably when x became negative. So I closed the session and altered the coordinates in winpos.dat to sensible values. FiF was fine
in the new session.

Let's hope it remains a rare occurrence; it's useful to know how to correct the
coords, even if one doesn't quite know why they got messed up!

So - no problem for now, just a warning to other (Windows) users.

Thanks,

Mike

This problem has just re-surfaced for me, J806 under Windows 10,

Today's inaccessible fif has
Fif=-1383 154 2394 529

Difficult to say what caused it, as I tend to keep J sessions going until
they

I'll try to reset the values to something reasonable, and report back if

Obviously Fif has the same bug as Fiw had:
My winpos.dat looked like
     Fiw=792 259 938 109
...
     Fif=-2053 282 1924 350       NB. also a negative value
so it seems obvious the window was invisible.

After copying the Fiw-value in Fif, it worked fine.
Thanks very much.

Subject: Re: [Jprogramming] find in files window inaccessible

I posted around 14/9/14 about a missing find window.
My problem was with find in window, so the following
might not be relevant.

Greg Heil had commented; I replied:

      <<Thanks Greg -  ....  I looked
      in regedit but found nothing relevant there. Then I had a
      brainwave, looked in ~user/configqt and found a J file
      called winpos.dat.

      This looked very fishy:
      Fiw=-22947 378 65517 122
          compared to
      Fif=55 108 960 529
      !

      So I changed the Fiw values to something more sensible,
      and my missing Find window reappeared.

      This suggests a question - can one configure maximum
      (and minimum) allowed values for these parameters?
      Presumably the error was inadvertently caused by a
      huge search term going in the "search for" field.
       >>

Fif might be relevant to your problem.

Good luck!
