I have used J for "more general tasks". (Though, in one case, I
replaced the code with a perl script which was only 3 times slower -
the code only took a few minutes to run, once a month, and saving time
on installation and deployment was deemed a "greater good". And, that
said, I have also used J to model difficult bits of code that I would
otherwise have struggled with in other languages - a C# project comes
to mind...)

However, I got paid for those efforts. (Either because I was salaried
at the time or because I was working on a contract at the time.) Which
means someone else owns that code now. So, it would be unprofessional
of me to post the code here.

Anyways, for me, J is easier than Python. Maybe that just means I do
not know enough Python (and enough Python libraries...)? Still, python
tends to favor tedious implementations. That said, we have lost a
variety of supporting facilities over the years (the sax xml support
comes to mind), so there's that, also...

Thanks,
