Thomas,, J is a language for communicating with a computer. So just as you
might approach any language, you need to learn some words. Like a Spanish to
English dictionary, you need to understand the new words. I would suggest going
often to the "Vocabulary". Start by taking definitions that do things you want
ro do and analyze each word to see how it is used. It may seem slow, but as
your vocabulary increases you will find it gets easier. After short sentences
become easier you will begin to create your own "verbs" which you are free to
name as you wish.

Also ask questions when something seems like it should be simple, but you don't
understand it.

Enjoy the process!

Linda

Subject: [Jprogramming] J naming conventions

Hello Forum,

I recently started programming in J (by now mainly for the purpose of educating
myself) and I'm impressed by the terseness that can be achieved in expressing
your ideas. However, being still a beginner, I'm not sure whether there are
well established naming conventions among the J community.

For instance: How are verbs/variables/etc. named in an idiomatic way
(camelCase? under_scores? What about case?)? Browsing through available example
source code did not yet give me a clear intuition of how these things are
handled in the J community.

If there are any established conventions, I would very much appreciate any link
to the respective documentation.

Regards,

Thomas
