I share your memory problems, so I have put these two lines

NB.    load'pacman'
NB.    je_update_jpacman_''

at the beginning of my startup script, for a new version I uncomment and run 
them, and comment them again.
The 'close J and restart' advice appears on the screen, so I don't need to 
store.
